RADVISION's IMS Express™ is Leading the Way

RADVISION's IMS Developer Suite is pulling the IMS Express™ ahead of the rest. For developers of IPTV networks, cable networks, next-gen networks and fixed line networks, RADVISION is leading the IMS evolution.

Unveiled in January 2007, the RADVISION IMS Developer Suite is a family of first-to-market IMS developer tools and IMS-ready infrastructure products that includes all the necessary signaling and media protocols to easily and cost-effectively meet the IMS challenge – complete with application engines.

The IMS Developer Suite includes the following components:

IMS SIP Toolkit- A powerful and highly versatile set of tools to facilitate development of IMS SIP applications while reducing development time and costs.

IMS MEGACO/H.248 Toolkit- Designed for decomposed gateway architectures for developing Media Gateways or Media Gateway Controller applications.

IMS DIAMETER Toolkit- An extensible messaging protocol enabling Authentication, Authorization and Accounting within and across IP multimedia networks that relies on secure and reliable transports.

IMS Advanced RTP/RTCP Toolkit- Addresses the requirements of sending media over IP networks in an efficient and advanced manner.

IMS Application Server Platform - A software framework that implements all the necessary building blocks for SIP servers and supports rapid and effective development of IMS applications.

ProLab™ IMS Test Solution - A testing solution for advanced signaling and media tests, voice and video quality, as well as simulating different network topologies.

Adi Paz, Senior Director for Product Marketing for RADVISION's Technology Business Unit, reports that the market is eager to receive new IMS tools and solutions, since IMS is the basis of a truly converged network environment that encompasses 3G, wireline, packet cable and WiMAX. “The IMS Developer Suite is already helping developers deliver products to market faster. RADVISION is recognized as the industry leader in this emerging market, but for us, the train is just leaving the station. There’s more to come!”

RADVISION experienced yet another landmark year in 2006. In addition to record-breaking revenues and profits, the company recorded progress in strategic markets and strengthened key partner relationships. RADVISION CEO Boaz Raviv shares some insights on the video communications market and his view on what’s in store over the next few years.

Can you give us a brief summary of 2006?
Our relationship with our primary OEM partner, Cisco, continues to become stronger and more diverse, expanding into new and innovative product lines and industries. Our relationships with other key partners, like IBM, Microsoft, Sony, Aethra and LifeSize also have

  1

become stronger. It is an honor for RADVISION to partner with companies of such stature and to play a key role in shaping the future of video communications and conferencing networks with them.
The milestone introduction of the SCOPIA™ v.5 platform was certainly a highlight. This led to significant growth in market share, and was a springboard to add new features and functions, such as high definition and desktop connectivity.

Did the 3G arena prove as promising as expected?
We believe that growth in this emerging market will be driven by the ability to deliver multiple interactive services over a single platform. Our SCOPIA Interactive Video Platform is designed with this in mind, and this strategy proved to be on target. It was selected by various mobile operators and Application Service Providers (ASPs) across the globe to deploy services such as video communities and chat rooms, remote surveillance and video-enabled contact centers, and many others. The SCOPIA Interactive Video Platform and veteran 3G Video Gateway, along with a plethora of interactive mobile video applications, makes for a winning combination in this dynamic market. We are also very excited about prototype EV-DO deployments in the US, the newest player in the 3G market, and in China, where we are working closely with operators in anticipation of the government granting licenses for 3G service.

Is the developer market still “ripe” for RADVISION technology products?
Yes. Most definitely. And demand remains very strong. This technology is one of the things that differentiates RADVISION in the industry. Not only do we provide superior protocol stacks and tools, they are the foundation of our own infrastructure products, middleware applications and solutions. And in 2006, our technology product line was augmented with viable IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) offerings and the ProLab Testing Suite – both of which have attracted a tremendous amount of interest in the market.

What about traditional video conferencing room systems – RADVISION's “bread and butter?”
The room system market continues to be stable, and we have gained significant market share. The introduction of the SCOPIA Desktop in the second quarter of 2007 is a great example of this. We believe this groundbreaking product is going to change the entire face of the room system market, extending its reach and helping enterprises and organizations maximize their investments.

We believe the next two years are going to be very exciting. This is a fantastic industry to be in, and RADVISION is positioned to take advantage of all the opportunities that lie ahead.

Breaking Out of the Conference Room
Adding a new dimension to video network infrastructure

altIn March, RADVISION officially opened the doors of the SCOPIA conferencing room to invite desktop and mobile users to join in on the visual experience. At VoiceCon 2007 in Orlando, FL RADVISION unveiled the SCOPIA Desktop solution that makes the video network accessible to any member of an enterprise – wherever they may be. The official launch attracted a great deal of attention at the show.

Employees, partners, and colleagues can collaborate in multiparty conferences regardless of the device they are using – high-end room conferencing systems, laptops or even mobile phones.

SCOPIA Desktop offers an experience that is as easy to use as Web conferencing. Participants simply click on a Web link and they are in the conference room. SCOPIA Desktop has a built-in firewall traversal.

Wainhouse Research’s Andrew Davis had a few nice things to say about the solution: “By using elements of their Click to Meet® desktop offering and integrating it with their SCOPIA hardware MCU, RADVISION has solved the issues of other desktop solutions – namely application installation issues, gatekeeper registration requirements, firewall traversal and H.239 data interoperability. And perhaps most impressively, the pricing scheme is very easy – it is bundled free of charge with every SCOPIA MCU.”

Stay tuned for more as the video conferencing rooms of tomorrow expand to reach everywhere.

RADVISION is at the forefront of the evolution to deliver visual communications over mobile networks. Advances in codec development and implementation are improving the video experience at lower bandwidths, and today, most mobile networks offer sufficient video quality to support a wide range of exciting services, such as mobile multiparty video telephony and other real-time, interactive video applications.

RADVISION stands behind its belief that the availability of bundled services is key to growing the mobile customer base and increasing usage and revenues. At 3GSM World Congress 2007 in Barcelona, RADVISION introduced and demoed a wide range of ready-to-deploy and core developer applications that complement existing mobile services, such as downloading music tracks, ring tones and TV.

These compelling mobile interactive video applications are built on the foundation of the IMS-ready SCOPIA™ Interactive Video Platform and 3G Video Gateway core infrastructure elements. This infrastructure enables connecting multiple real-time video sources in UMTS, CDMA EV-DO, Cable and other IP networks.

Some of the recently released RADVISION applications include:

Mobile Video Conferencing
Multiparty video conferencing on mobile handsets
iCONTACT™
Mobile video enhancement for new or existing contact centers
Mobile Video Communities
Multimedia mobile forum and chat services
Video Ringback Clip™
Display personalized video clips while phone rings (video ringback tone)

Video Portal
Extend the reach of portals with feature-rich, personalized video interactivity
m-Learning
A mobile remote learning solution
3GTubing™
Extends the reach of video sharing services with easy mobile access to video sharing portals

These ready-to-deploy and core developer applications allow operators and service providers to customize and deliver services to subscribers over any bearer.

For video communications to be a success, the services offered must leverage today’s mobile and converged lifestyle. Ready-to-roll out services like these allow people to share what’s happening to them at special moments in their lives – in real-time –with friends, family or a video community. No matter what video-enabled device they use.

“The world of video is rapidly evolving to let consumers get any video content, from any source, on any device, anywhere they happen to be. RADVISION’s SCOPIA platform lets telecommunications companies leverage all their existing infrastructure, and then helps them to add on innovative new consumer services quickly and reliably, all with a forward looking roadmap to support IMS.”

Eye on CALA
The laid back, relaxed atmosphere of Latin America and the Caribbean make it a great place to vacation and enjoy some of the most breathtaking vistas in the world. But slowly and at a pace all its own, this market is catching up and jumping on the IP bandwagon.

Despite its massive land mass, the CALA region’s GNP is smaller than the combined GNP of New York, California and Texas. The business environment throughout the region, which encompasses Mexico, South & Central America and the Caribbean, is characterized by the dominance of the public sector with the government being by far the largest employer. In addition, decisions regarding technology acquisitions for representative offices of large multinational corporations, who are potential customers for video network infrastructure, are more often than not made by central offices outside the region. Privatization of the telecom industry began later than in Europe and the US and the SME sector is small but growing. As a result, IP infrastructure throughout Latin America and the Caribbean is far behind most other locales, and the lack of competition means prices that are beyond what local SMEs can sustain.

  Jbell

“On the one hand, it is easy to understand why IP deployment has been slow,” says Jim Bell, RADVISION Director of Sales in this region. “I pay over $90 for an ADSL line, with 512K download and 256K upload. The business sector simply does not have the investment resources to meet that. Service Providers (SPs) are large government-controlled concerns, so there is very little competition to drive prices down. And the consumer market is even less able to carry that kind of burden.”

According to Jim, things are changing and RADVISION is uniquely poised to not only take advantage of market opportunities as they arise, but to affect change and shape the IP-based visual communications landscape.

“In our region, I believe the single most important product in the RADVISION portfolio is SCOPIA™ Desktop. For CALA-based SPs, it is a dream come true,” he says. “SCOPIA Desktop will be a true ‘market equalizer.’ Taking video conferencing out of the boardroom will increase market penetration and usage. SPs will be able to recover their infrastructure investments, and as a result, prices will go down and users will benefit. It’s a win-win situation."

RADVISION’s offerings are well positioned for the diverse needs of Latin American markets, and are well-respected. The SCOPIA platform is being used by the Argentinean and Peruvian Income Tax Authorities, AFIP and SUNAT, as well as by the Chilean Ministry of Education. Brazil’s largest SP, TELEMAR and Mexico’s cellular and wireline carrier, IUSATEL also use RADVISION infrastructure products to deliver advanced services to customers. IT/USERS magazine, one of Latin America’s leading specialized media publications, recently named RADVISION’s Click To Meet® as a recipient of the 2006 Top IT Awards. Click to Meet was noted for its leading-edge innovation in the Latin American rich media infrastructure market.

Stay tuned for more exciting news as RADVISION helps establish a new standard for the collaborative workplace in one of the world’s untapped markets.
