Pre-Deployment and Post-Deployment Network Testing
Ideally, video and voice network readiness testing should be performed before the entire system is deployed. In addition, ongoing testing is required for system monitoring once the VoIP network is up and running. Testing voice and video over IP network readiness, both pre and post-deployment, is essential to ensure a high quality end user experience.

IP Network Readiness Testing: Complex and Challenging
IP network readiness testing can be complex and challenging, as the tests must be based on numerous endpoints sending and receiving different types of media streams via a variety of network devices. The requirements of real-time VoIP networks differ from standard data networks. Consequently, a different approach is needed when testing for VoIP network readiness. Criteria such as delay, packet loss, duplicate packets, packet ordering and corrupted packets facilitate the detection of problems in voice and video over IP networks.

Preparing Your Network

Traditional approaches such as base-lining network applications and use of low-level protocol analyzers to collect data about when applications run, bandwidth usage and performance don't provide sufficient detail to enable IT administrators to make an informed decision about whether the network is ready for voice and video, which adjustments are required and how to configure the network to suit the enterprise's business needs. IT administrators should not have to invest in studying and determining what data to collect and how to collect the required measurements to make a sound evaluation. Lacking the tools they need, they are often put in just such a position.

What is eVident?
Radvision's eVident Solution is a feature-rich testing system that is suitable for use in various stages of the network deployment cycle, both for testing network readiness and for emulating SIP, TIP and H.323 network problems.
The Solution: An Automated Testing and Monitoring Solution designed by Experts
A more practical solution is to automate testing by emulating real network traffic including signaling and media using a smart monitoring tool that can be configured to emulate relevant endpoints including Radvision, Polycom, Lifesize, Tandberg, etc. and to generate calls. The automated testing solution needs to cover diverse codecs, ranges of bandwidth and many more testing requirements. It must emulate media from the endpoint, and measure bandwidth capacity, delay, jitter, packet loss, calls and transactions. It should also be used for testing network readiness and emulating network problems.
Radvision, an Avaya company, is a leading provider of products and technologies for unified visual communications over IP and emerging next generation networks. Radvision's unique and innovative Voice and Video Monitoring solutions allow IT managers to test and assess VoIP networks in real time, including deep measurement and analysis.

PreVideo
The PreVideo tool evaluates network readiness for real-time voice and video over IP. To accomplish this it uses its topology emulation capabilities, including interaction capabilities with various types of infrastructures.
RvMon
The RVMon QoE Server provides Real Time Voice & Video network monitoring. It calculates "perceived" quality of call experience for Voice and Video calls by collecting Audio and Video metrics and processing them with the goal of User Experience Optimization. The RVMon QoE Server enables real-time adaptive and corrective actions for continuous optimization of the user experience. It also produces QoE/Media Quality reports that focus on the voice and video quality of VoIP calls, including cause analysis and recommendations for quality improvement. In addition to the QoE/Media Quality reports, the RVMon QoE Server provides a Call Detail Record (CDR) with basic peer-to-peer and conferencing usage information.
VQInsider
VQInsider quantifies and measures the user experience for Voice and Video communications based on objective and subjective parameters. VQInsider, through monitoring, diagnostics and troubleshooting functionality, provides comprehensive passive offline, non-intrusive, analysis and measurement of media applications and facilitates improvements in the user experience. With VQInsider, IT departments can ensure their clients high-end voice and video telephony services.
