When preparing VoIP network for real-time voice and video over IP, network IT managers must assess whether their network can provide and maintain the expected quality of service (QoS). Going ahead with voice and video over IP means making informed decisions about network devices to deploy, bandwidth requirements, and optimal network configuration required. Proactive and passive methods are needed to ensure network readiness before voice and video services are deployed on it, as the success of these services depends on the ability of the network to support them.

Since a large part of Voice/Video Quality is determined by user perception of the quality, it's difficult to determine solely through the analysis of network statistics alone. Video and audio quality can become degraded for a variety of reasons, resulting in poor or distorted images or audio, packet loss, delay and jitter. Even after the voice and video over IP network is up and running, maintaining a high level of audio and video quality and performance remain primary considerations.

Continuous monitoring of the network in real time is required to ensure continued QoS for Audio/Video services and to detect faults that may affect Video usage. Quick and reliable real-time detection and resolution of quality-related problems is essential.

PreVideo
The PreVideo tool evaluates network readiness for real-time voice and video over IP. To accomplish this it uses its topology emulation capabilities, including interaction capabilities with various types of infrastructures.
RvMon
The RVMon QoE Server provides Real Time Voice & Video network monitoring. It calculates "perceived" quality of call experience for Voice and Video calls by collecting Audio and Video metrics and processing them with the goal of User Experience Optimization. The RVMon QoE Server enables real-time adaptive and corrective actions for continuous optimization of the user experience. It also produces QoE/Media Quality reports that focus on the voice and video quality of VoIP calls, including cause analysis and recommendations for quality improvement. In addition to the QoE/Media Quality reports, the RVMon QoE Server provides a Call Detail Record (CDR) with basic peer-to-peer and conferencing usage information.
VQInsider
VQInsider quantifies and measures the user experience for Voice and Video communications based on objective and subjective parameters. VQInsider, through monitoring, diagnostics and troubleshooting functionality, provides comprehensive passive offline, non-intrusive, analysis and measurement of media applications and facilitates improvements in the user experience. With VQInsider, IT departments can ensure their clients high-end voice and video telephony services.
